Global Cities Team: Energy and Climate Change Researcher
council main.jpg

At the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, I worked for three and a half months as a research intern under the supervision of Chicago's former Chief of Sustainability, Karen Weigert. Throughout this time I helped Karen with her various projects by providing supporting research or ideas.

Various projects included:

  • Gathering data and putting together a PowerPoint for Karen's Greenbuild presentation on sustainable cities.

  • Assembling a panel of prospective guest speakers and corresponding workshop topics to discuss nature as a solution in cities.

  • Briefs on current events or policy updates.

Check out the pictures below to read about a few projects I worked on

Working on this paper was my first assignment. I helped to edit, check the citations, and ensure all the figures and findings were consistent. The research focuses on low-carbon building energy codes.

This is a web map I created of the history of the U.S.' environmental regulation. I organized the map by decade and provided explanations of its importance and implications. This was background research for Karen as she was putting together a podcast on U.S. environmental regulation.

This is a summary on the main points of COP24, international carbon trading, and trends of past COPs. This was used as a news update and background research.

Eco Ambassadors Program: Climate Change Youth Mentor

In the summer of 2017 I volunteer interned with the environmental non-profit, Faith in Place. Faith in Place is an interfaith organization which advocates for environmentalism and community enhancement throughout various places of worship in the Chicagoland area.

The Eco Ambassadors Program is a summer internship for high school students. This program was created to give students a voice, prepare them for other internships and jobs, and to inform young people about environmental challenges. The environmental issue we focused on was climate change.

Responsibilities and Projects:

  • Lead group discussions about environmental impacts on marginalized communities, how to be an environmental steward, and encouraged students to express their opinions.

  • Helped students with their research and presentation skills for their final presentations.

  • Taught a lesson on the impacts of climate change on agriculture.

Overall, working with the Eco Ambassadors was one of my favorite experiences because the students' passion was inspiring.

Alderman Smith, 43rd Ward: Aldermanic Aid
43rd ward.jpg

Summer of 2018 I interned with Alderman Michele Smith in the 43rd ward which covers Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast. The main responsibility of all the interns is to answer constituent calls and resolve any issues. The interns specialize in the 311 database and input task orders. In addition, we are responsible for the sale of parking permits.

Specific projects included:

  • Researching environmental benefits of green space for the Lincoln Yards proposal.

  • Creating content for the alderman's social media, specifically making Facebook and Twitter posts.

  • Attending various meetings on behalf of the alderman and writing memos.

Click the images below to view a project I did with a fellow intern about a city hall meeting on plastics and straws.

This included making a newsletter and flyer on recycling for constituents.
